These soluble proteins are being converted into optical sensors by mutagenesis and chemical labeling with fluorescent probes.
The plan is to have a collection of these binding proteins to be used as an array or singly in various applications. Additionally, special sites for immobilization on a surface are being engineered on these proteins in order to preserve their activity.
