Sensor For Near Real-time Evaluation of Chemotheraphy in Cancer

This project is in collaboration with the UM Greenbaum Cancer Center and Guided Therapeutics, Inc. (formerly Spectrx, Inc.) of Atlanta, GA. CAST staff will synthesize molecularly imprinted polymers specific for apoptosis (cell-death) markers.

Silver or gold nanoparticles embedded in these polymers generate the signal in the presence of the markers. The goal is to detect apoptosis markers as they are released into interstitial fluid (ISF) during the process of chemotherapy. A wearable device with the ISF sampler (developed by Guided Therapeutics), sensor and small spectrometer will be built by CAST.
